Paipa – Boyacá – Colombia, September 26, 2025. – “It has been a spectacular edition, the best ever held in the Americas, thanks to the high level of participation and the extraordinary commitment of our local hosts.” With these words, Rogelio Martínez, General Manager of Expourense and Director of Termatalia, closed the event.
This strong assessment is supported by the participation figures and the outstanding engagement with the event’s training programme, which featured 55 experts from 13 countries.
The 23rd International Thermal Tourism, Health and Wellness Fair (the sixth edition held in the Americas) concluded after welcoming more than 2,000 in-person visitors, in addition to 24,900 livestream views of the 6th International Congress on Water and Health, which was broadcast live on Teleandina’s YouTube channel.
It was also the most interactive edition to date, as in-person attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the experts participating in both the Congress and the specialized health tourism discussion panels.

The closing ceremony, led by Termatalia Director Rogelio Martínez, was attended by the strategic partners of this edition in Colombia: Fontur, Cotelco, the Government of Boyacá, and the Municipality of Paipa.
All of them expressed their satisfaction with the results achieved and thanked Termatalia for becoming an international platform for promoting Colombia’s thermal tourism, particularly that of Boyacá and Paipa.   By hosting this event, Colombia has also reaffirmed its commitment to health tourism and is seeking to secure a prominent place among the world’s leading thermal tourism destinations.

During the closing ceremony, Termatalia was recognized as one of the world’s leading events in health and wellness tourism. The award was presented by the Latin American Spa Association (ALTSPA), which also honored the Hotel Sochagota in Paipa for its long-standing contribution to health tourism, as the venue that hosted this year’s event.
Also during the day, the twinning process was officially initiated between the thermal destination of Paipa (Boyacá, Colombia) and the thermal town of Serrezuela (Córdoba, Argentina).

These outstanding participation figures for an edition held in the Americas are further reinforced by the more than 1,000 local residents who took to the streets to welcome Termatalia on the afternoon of its opening day.
The official opening ceremony of Termatalia Colombia 2025, which was also livestreamed, attracted more than 10,000 views. These figures clearly demonstrate the strong commitment of the people of Paipa to thermalism, the municipality’s most important tourism asset.

The sixth edition of Termatalia in the Americas has now come to a close. The 2026 edition will return to its traditional European venue in the city of Ourense, Spain. In 2027, the event will once again be held abroad, and destinations interested in hosting it are now invited to submit their candidacies.
During this Colombian edition, Expourense officially received Costa Rica’s bid to host Termatalia 2027. The candidacy is supported by both the country’s public tourism authorities and the thermal tourism industry. A delegation of around twelve institutional representatives and business leaders travelled to Paipa to formally present the proposal.
