>> The presentations delivered by the 55 experts from 13 countries participating in the 6th International Congress on Water and Health will serve as a key reference for Colombia’s public authorities and private sector in developing legislation to regulate the thermal tourism sector and support its sustainable growth.
Paipa – Boyacá – Colombia, September 25, 2025. – With two of the three event days already completed, the Government of Boyacá and the Municipality of Paipa, Expourense’s two main partners in organizing Termatalia Colombia 2025, have expressed their satisfaction with the results achieved so far, highlighting both the outstanding quality of the speakers and the high level of attendance and engagement.
Both institutions are confident that the knowledge and experience shared during the event will provide a solid foundation for the development of national legislation to promote and regulate thermal tourism in Colombia. This framework is expected to address key issues such as tax incentives for companies in the sector, wastewater management, and the protection of groundwater resources and aquifers.
The Secretary of Tourism of the Department of Boyacá, Ana María Rojas, stated during her visit to the fair:
“Termatalia will mark a turning point in the development of our thermal tourism as an economic driver. The international visibility this event has provided will help everything we are already doing grow exponentially.”
Along the same lines, Paipa’s Mayor, Germán Camacho, stated that the fair would serve as a catalyst for the region’s thermal tourism development. He emphasized the need to expand the use of thermal waters beyond recreation by incorporating their health and therapeutic applications, as is common practice in Europe.
“We need to learn from those who have already done it successfully.”
As thermal waters are Paipa’s main tourism asset, the Mayor described hosting Termatalia as “a golden opportunity that we are determined not to miss.”
During the second day of the event, both the sessions of the 6th International Congress on Water and Health and the Specialized Panels were held to full capacity. They featured extended Q&A sessions, allowing attendees to take full advantage of the experts’ presence to address questions on topics such as legislation, workforce training for the thermal tourism sector, geothermal energy, and other related issues.
The second day concluded with a visit to the Paipa Thermal Institute, home to the country’s first Thermal Healthcare Service Provider (IPS), which integrates medical care with physical and comprehensive rehabilitation using thermal waters.
The IPS features medical consultation rooms, a rehabilitation gym, and a thermal pool specially adapted for people with reduced mobility. Its multidisciplinary team—comprising a physiatrist, physiotherapists, and a sports medicine physician—supports both patients and athletes throughout their recovery process, combining advanced technologies such as therapeutic ultrasound, shockwave therapy, and cryotherapy with the therapeutic properties of natural thermal waters.
