25-08-2016 In the first half, Mexico receives 17M of international tourists

During the first half of this year have reached Mexico 17 million of international tourists, which means an increase of 8.6 per cent compared to the same period of time, but last year, in figures that reflect a sustained growth of the industry, said the Ministry of tourism, Sectur.

Enrique de la Madrid, Tourism Minister of Mexico highlighted that by this concept currency is captured by 10.063 million dollars, i.e., 8% more than in the same period of the year 2015.

The Secretary stressed that not only the international tourism had a positive behavior, but that national tourism recorded historical figures by 2015, with departures to hotel 83.200.000.

Also, from January to June this year, hotels recorded 220.583 occupied rooms per day, i.e. 3.7% more than in the same period of last year and a percentage of occupation of 60.7%, equivalent to a 0.8% rise in the same period.

This sector leads up to eleven quarters of consecutive growth. Of them, five have been above the registered nationwide, making it "one of the main drivers of the economy and employment-generating".

Tourism arrived by air increased 10.7% in international trips to record the arrival of 8.7 million tourists. De la Madrid recalled that, in the first quarter of 2016, the consumption of this segment grew by 6%, compared to the same period of last year.
